Our life-sized alpaca statue, which we've named "Alumni" is made of aluminum with thousands of tediously detailed small pieces welded together to give the impression of a real alpaca covered from top knot to toes in fiber.  The project took the craftsman about 6 months to complete.

Alumni captures both the attention of visitors and even our alpacas as it appears so realistic.  In fact, last fall a female alpaca managed to outsmart us (yet again) and got away from the barn.  Totally free, she ran directly over to the statue and once there, she stood still and studied it for a few minutes as if she was trying to determine it's gender.  Watching this happen we became concerned if one of our herdsires was to get free, he might run over and try to mount the statue leaving us with an interesting story to tell when the vet arrived to do the repairs.

We have Alumni gently illuminated at night and with the lights and reflections the alpaca looks like it's made of glass.  It's the next best thing to seeing a real alpaca.
